Buffalo, NY – Western and northern New York are grappling with severe conditions as a powerful lake-effect snowstorm continues. The National Weather Service has issued warnings for areas including Wyoming, Chautauqua, Erie, and Jefferson counties.

According to the National Weather Service, snow accumulations could reach up to 16 inches in parts of western counties, while the Tug Hill Plateau in northern New York may see up to 3 feet of snow by Wednesday afternoon. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph are producing blowing snow and whiteout conditions.

Hazardous travel conditions are expected to disrupt commutes, with poor visibility and deep snow covering roadways. Authorities warn that weather conditions can change rapidly. Heavy snow bands may create localized blizzard-like conditions, alternating with clearer skies just a few miles away.

The storm will likely affect residents through Wednesday afternoon in the Tug Hill area and until early Thursday morning in western counties. Officials are advising residents to avoid unnecessary travel and prepare for delays. Emergency kits, including blankets, water, and flashlights, are strongly recommended for those who must drive.

Temperatures remain in the teens, with wind chills making it feel even colder. Prolonged exposure could lead to frostbite, especially during peak winds. Residents are urged to stay indoors and monitor updates from local authorities.

Stay prepared and cautious as this significant snow event continues to unfold.
