Miami, Florida – An intense heat wave is gripping South Florida, with heat index values expected to soar between 105 and 110 degrees this weekend, especially in Miami, Naples, and Lakeport. The region will endure abnormally high pressure and drier conditions, increasing health risks for anyone spending extended time outdoors.
According to the US National Weather Service Miami, maximum heat indices on Saturday could peak at 110°F across the western half of South Florida, including La Belle, Immokalee, and Naples. The eastern half, including Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and Boca Raton, will feel indices between 100 and 105°F through Sunday night.
Officials urge residents to limit outdoor activities, especially strenuous work or exercise. Take frequent breaks, stay in the shade, and remain hydrated. Never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles. Indoor areas without air conditioning can quickly become dangerous—check on elderly or sick neighbors.
Local job sites, schools, and outdoor events may see schedule changes or closures as the heat persists. Utility companies warn of increased energy demand. This event mirrors previous summer heat waves but is among the season’s most severe so far.
Elevated heat indices will continue through Sunday, with additional advisories possible if high pressure lingers. Stay tuned to weather.gov/heat for updates and safety resources.
