Joliet, IL – A 6-year-old boy from Joliet is in protective custody after allegedly fatally stabbing his 2-year-old brother on Friday. Joliet police were called to a home in the 2700 block of Fairway Drive at 5:04 p.m., where they found the toddler suffering from multiple stab wounds. Officers immediately administered aid, but the child was pronounced dead after being transported to Ascension St. Joseph Medical Center.
According to authorities, preliminary investigations revealed that the 6-year-old allegedly used a kitchen knife to stab his younger brother while they were in the family room. The boys’ mother discovered the victim and called 911.
The 6-year-old was taken into protective custody by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) after being interviewed by police. The child has since been transported to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation under DCFS supervision.
The incident has left the Joliet community in shock, and the investigation remains ongoing.
