Raleigh, NC – Residents in central North Carolina are bracing for dangerous road conditions Wednesday morning as lingering snow and ice create hazards. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 7 a.m., and a Cold Weather Advisory remains active until 10 a.m. Temperatures are expected to struggle above freezing through the day.
According to the National Weather Service, light snow ended overnight, but slick roads—especially bridges and overpasses—remain a concern. Wind chills could dip to zero degrees in some areas, increasing the risk of frostbite for exposed skin. Drivers are advised to slow down and allow extra time for commutes.
The remainder of Wednesday is expected to see gradual clearing, with highs reaching 32°F by the afternoon. Overnight lows will drop to 19°F, leaving untreated surfaces frozen into Thursday morning.
Looking ahead, Thursday will bring partly sunny skies and slightly warmer temperatures, with highs near 38°F. Roads may improve by the afternoon, but shaded areas could remain icy. By Friday, highs will climb to 42°F, offering a reprieve from freezing conditions.
Officials urge residents to take precautions: stay indoors when possible, dress in warm layers, and ensure pets and vulnerable neighbors are cared for. For updates on road conditions, call 511 or check local DOT reports.
Be sure to stay informed as temperatures fluctuate through the weekend, with highs reaching 45°F Saturday and 52°F Sunday under sunny skies.
