Binghamton, NY – Dangerous cold weather grips the Binghamton area today, with wind chills plunging as low as -25°F this morning. Residents are urged to bundle up and avoid prolonged outdoor exposure to prevent frostbite, which can occur within 30 minutes on exposed skin.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Binghamton, a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect until noon Wednesday. Daytime highs will only reach 14°F, with wind chill values making it feel much colder. Light wind and clear skies will give way to increasing clouds tonight, with a low of 7°F.

Looking ahead, Thursday will see partial clearing, with temperatures climbing slightly to a high of 24°F. A mild warming trend is expected by the weekend, with Saturday’s high forecasted at 26°F, followed by Sunday potentially reaching 32°F. Overnight lows, however, will remain in the single digits to teens.

Road conditions along I-81 and Route 17 could be impacted by the extreme cold, making vehicle preparation essential. Ensure antifreeze levels are sufficient, and keep emergency supplies in your car. Those traveling should also be aware of the potential for frostbite or hypothermia in prolonged outdoor exposure.

Residents are reminded to wear multiple layers, hats, and gloves to stay safe. Pets should be brought indoors to protect them from the freezing temperatures. Updates can be found on weather.gov or by following local alerts from the NWS.

Stay vigilant and take precautions as the cold weather persists.
