Hammond, IN – Firefighter Injured After Falling Through Floor in Multi-Structure Fire

A Hammond firefighter sustained an ankle injury and smoke inhalation after falling through a floor while battling a fire involving three closely situated structures. A MAYDAY alarm was issued, and crews quickly rescued the firefighter.

According to Hammond Firefighters Local 556, multiple fire departments, including those from East Chicago, Whiting, Gary, Hobart, and Michigan City, provided immediate assistance on scene and at the hospital. The department expressed gratitude for the mutual aid and support received.

No further details on the cause of the fire or additional injuries have been released.
