A school bus carrying 22 students collided with an SUV in Gurnee on Thursday afternoon. The crash happened at Vineyard Drive and Mendocino Drive around 2:10 p.m.
Police said the school bus was traveling northbound when a Lexus SUV, driven by a 34-year-old woman from Forest Park, mistakenly drove north in the southbound lane. As the bus turned left onto Mendocino Drive, the Lexus struck its front corner. The SUV flipped and rolled over on impact.
All 22 students and the bus driver escaped unharmed. The bus sustained major damage and was towed from the scene. Paramedics checked the Lexus driver at the scene, but she did not need further medical attention.
Officers cited the Lexus driver for improper lane usage, which they determined caused the crash.
