Gurnee, IL – The Village of Gurnee has introduced a new initiative to honor local military service members through its Hometown Heroes Banner Program. Launched by the Veterans Blue Ribbon Commission in partnership with American Legion Post 771, the program recognizes those who have served or are currently serving in the United States Armed Forces.

This initiative aims to celebrate the bravery and dedication of Gurnee’s veterans and active service members by displaying banners along O’Plaine Road. These banners will feature the name, image, and branch of service of each honored individual, creating a visual tribute to their sacrifices and commitment.

According to village officials, the Hometown Heroes Banner Program is designed to strengthen the community’s connection to its veterans, ensuring their service is acknowledged publicly. Residents can nominate or apply for a banner to honor a loved one by visiting the village’s website. The program is open to all service members with ties to Gurnee, regardless of when or where they served. This ongoing effort reflects Gurnee’s commitment to honoring its heroes and fostering community pride.
