Dallas, Texas – Sweltering heat is set to grip Texas and the Gulf Coast, with temperatures soaring well above normal as July ends and August begins, putting millions at risk for heat-related impacts.

According to the National Weather Service, an intense upper ridge will lock in across Texas, Louisiana, and the greater Gulf Coast from July 30 through August 5, 2025. Forecast models point to daily highs at or above 100°F in Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, New Orleans, and surrounding regions—values 5 to 10 degrees hotter than average for early August.

Cities along the I-10 corridor—including Houston, Baton Rouge, and Mobile—will face high humidity, sending heat index values as high as 110°F. Emergency management officials are urging residents to limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours, hydrate frequently, and check on elderly neighbors and pets. The ongoing heat also increases the risk of power grid strain and potential rolling blackouts, especially in the DFW Metroplex and greater Houston area.

This stretch marks one of the most intense early August heatwaves since 2011 for much of Texas. Residents should plan for extended periods of dangerous heat, avoid strenuous activity outdoors, and monitor local updates as new advisories may be posted.
