Greenville, South Carolina – After several days of summer heat, much of the western Carolinas is getting a welcome break today as cooler temperatures and noticeably lower humidity create ideal conditions for outdoor activities from the Upstate to the North Carolina mountains.
According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, temperatures this afternoon will be slightly cooler than Wednesday, with dry air keeping conditions comfortable across the region. Unlike the muggy weather that often dominates late July, lower humidity levels will make the day’s warmth feel much more manageable.
High temperatures will reach the upper 80s across much of the South Carolina Upstate, including 88 degrees in Greenville, Anderson and Spartanburg, while Rock Hill is forecast to top out near 86 degrees. Mountain communities will remain significantly cooler, with highs around 79 degrees in Asheville, 76 in Burnsville, and 77 in Franklin. Foothill locations such as Hickory and Lenoir are expected to warm into the mid-80s.
The comfortable conditions will make for a favorable day to mow the lawn, exercise outdoors, visit local parks or enjoy area lakes and trails. Even so, residents spending extended time outside should continue drinking plenty of water and use sunscreen, as the late-July sun remains intense despite the lower humidity.
Temperatures will gradually fall through the evening, with many communities cooling into the upper 60s and lower 70s after sunset.
No hazardous weather is expected today, allowing residents across western North Carolina, Upstate South Carolina and northeast Georgia to enjoy one of the more comfortable summer days in recent weeks.
