Green Bay, Wisconsin – Bitter cold will continue across Northeast Wisconsin through Friday, with dangerous wind chills overnight and a chance for lake-effect snow near Lake Michigan late Thursday night into Friday.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, temperatures tonight are expected to fall between -2 and -13 degrees, with wind chills dropping to 15 to 25 degrees below zero by early Thursday morning. These sub-zero wind chills will pose a risk for frostbite with prolonged outdoor exposure.

Daytime conditions Thursday will remain cold, with highs only reaching the single digits to lower teens, followed by another frigid night. The NWS notes that temperatures will remain 10 to 20 degrees below normal through Friday before moderating over the weekend.

Lake-effect snow showers are possible Thursday night into Friday, mainly affecting areas near Lake Michigan, including parts of Manitowoc and Vilas counties. Any snow is expected to be light, but flurries could briefly reduce visibility and create slick spots, especially on untreated roads.

Travelers along major corridors such as Interstate 43, Interstate 41, and U.S. Highway 141 should be prepared for bitter cold during overnight and early morning hours. Even short periods outdoors can become hazardous if vehicles stall or delays occur.

By Saturday, conditions are expected to improve, with highs climbing into the 20 to 25 degree range and lighter winds providing some relief from the extreme cold.

The cold stretch is especially relevant for early-morning commuters, outdoor workers, students, and vulnerable populations across the region.

Residents are urged to bundle up in layers, limit time outdoors, bring pets inside, and protect plumbing from freezing. Motorists should keep winter safety kits in vehicles during periods of extreme cold.

Updates and safety information are available through the National Weather Service as conditions gradually improve heading into the weekend.
