Green Bay, WI – A chilly weekend is ahead for northeastern Wisconsin, with lake-effect snow and below-normal temperatures leading the forecast. The National Weather Service predicts snow accumulation of up to 1 inch in Door County by Sunday morning, creating potentially hazardous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, lake-effect snow is expected to begin late Saturday, intensifying along the Lake Michigan shoreline by early Sunday. Accumulations will be light but sufficient to cause slippery roads. Highs Saturday will struggle to reach 20°F, while lows will dip to near 6°F. Sunday will bring a slight improvement, with highs near 29°F but gusty winds reaching 18 mph.
Travelers should exercise caution, particularly in areas like Door County and southern Oconto County, where snowfall and icy patches may complicate driving. Those heading out for holiday plans are advised to allow extra travel time and monitor updated forecasts through the weekend.
Looking ahead, the region may experience more significant weather impacts early next week. By Monday, widespread snow is likely, with temperatures climbing to 35°F. Christmas Day on Wednesday appears calmer, with highs near 35°F and partly sunny skies.
Residents are urged to stay informed and prepare for potential disruptions, especially with increased holiday travel. Keep snow removal equipment ready and ensure vehicles are equipped with winter safety kits.
