Green Bay, Wis. – A stretch of late-summer warmth is about to give way to a much cooler, fall-like pattern across Wisconsin by the weekend. Scattered showers are expected to linger through Wednesday before drier air moves in Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, a cold front pushing across the Great Lakes Friday will bring widespread rain and thunderstorms, followed by sharply cooler air. Highs that reached the upper 70s to near 80 earlier this week will tumble into the 60s by Saturday and Sunday, nearly 10 to 15 degrees below normal for late August.
Cities including Green Bay, Appleton, and Wausau could see the heaviest rainfall Friday evening, with strong storms possible along highways I-41 and U.S. 29. Travel could be slowed by heavy downpours, especially during the evening commute.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor plans Friday afternoon and prepare for a much cooler weekend. Layers will be needed for Saturday morning events as temperatures fall into the 50s overnight.
Cooler-than-average highs are expected to stick around into early next week, with more showers possible by Monday.
