Green Bay, WI – Northern Wisconsin is bracing for its first measurable snow of the season this weekend, with the National Weather Service (NWS) in Green Bay warning that Vilas County could see several inches of accumulation through Sunday night.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Vilas County from tonight through late Sunday as lake effect snow bands develop off Lake Superior. Forecasters say the heaviest snowfall is expected Sunday, when localized totals of 3 to 4 inches may occur, particularly north of Highway 70.
Elsewhere across north-central Wisconsin — including Door County and areas near Lake Michigan — only minor accumulations are anticipated, mainly on grassy or elevated surfaces. “Where the lake effect snow accumulates, roads could become snow covered and slippery at times,” the NWS cautioned.
The snow is expected to taper off late Sunday night, followed by cooler, breezy conditions into Monday. Drivers in far northern Wisconsin should slow down, allow extra travel time, and use caution on untreated roads.
This system marks the first snow event of the season for much of the region, signaling a shift toward more winter-like weather next week.
