Green Bay, WI — A significant winter storm is underway across northeastern, central, and east-central Wisconsin today, with conditions expected to worsen markedly through the afternoon and evening. The National Weather Service in Green Bay warns that moderate to heavy snow, reduced visibility, and difficult travel are likely from late morning through early Sunday.

Snow began spreading northeast early this morning, with intensification expected late morning into midday. Snowfall rates of 0.5 to 1 inch per hour will develop this afternoon across central and east-central Wisconsin, especially in areas influenced by lake enhancement.

The heaviest snow is expected between 5 PM and midnight, when snowfall rates may reach or exceed 1 inch per hour, particularly along the lakeshore and into east-central Wisconsin. Forecast totals include:

  • 6–11 inches from central WI to east-central WI
  • 3–6 inches farther north
  • 12 inches or more possible along parts of the lakeshore

Road conditions will deteriorate quickly this afternoon as visibility drops and snow covers highways throughout the region. NWS highlights the likelihood of very difficult travel, especially during the evening peak impact window.

As the storm exits Sunday morning, strong northwest winds will increase, leading to blowing and drifting snow across eastern Wisconsin. Gusts of 25–35 mph may create additional visibility challenges even after new snowfall tapers off.

Snow is expected to linger in parts of far north-central Wisconsin and along the lakeshore into Sunday afternoon before winds and conditions gradually improve near sunset.

Residents should monitor local road reports, avoid unnecessary travel during peak snowfall rates, and expect slowing or closures on major routes including I-43, Highway 41, and surrounding corridors.
