Green Bay, Wisconsin – Low humidity, gusty winds, and unusually warm temperatures are combining to raise fire danger levels across Wisconsin through Sunday, prompting caution for outdoor burning and grilling.
According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, conditions will remain dry after a chance of showers Friday night. Temperatures are expected to climb into the mid to upper 70s by Sunday, with afternoon humidity levels dipping well below average. The heightened fire risk will extend across central and northern counties, including Brown, Marathon, and Shawano, where vegetation is already dry from a lack of spring rainfall.
Officials urge residents to avoid burning yard debris, use extreme caution with outdoor flames, and ensure cigarettes are completely extinguished. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) may implement local burn bans or restrictions, particularly in rural areas.
Wind gusts up to 20 mph on Saturday and Sunday will increase the chance of wildfires spreading rapidly if ignited. This marks the first significant fire danger event of the spring season, reminiscent of similar dry spells in May 2021 and 2023 that triggered multiple brush fires in the region.
The fire danger is expected to persist through at least Sunday evening. More updates and any new advisories will be posted by the NWS and WI DNR as conditions evolve.
