BORGER, Texas – Seventy years ago today, a Texas dog pulled off an unintentional “Grand Theft Dog-Go,” taking his owner’s truck for a joyride.

Arthur, a Dalmatian, was a familiar passenger in Joe Richards’ truck. But in 1954, he took things a step further. When Richards left the engine running to make a phone call, Arthur’s chain got tangled around the gear shift. The truck jolted into reverse, rolling away with the unsuspecting pup behind the wheel.

Richards sprinted after the truck and managed to stop it before it hit anything. No one was hurt, but the bizarre event left locals laughing.

This quirky moment in history reminds us how unpredictable pets can be. While Arthur wasn’t trying to steal a truck, his accidental joyride remains a legendary story even 70 years later.
