Grand Rapids, MI – Severe storms are predicted to hit the Grand Rapids area this afternoon and evening, potentially bringing dangerous conditions. The National Weather Service has issued warnings for multiple rounds of storms that will persist through tonight.

Expected hazards include damaging wind gusts reaching up to 60 mph and large hail up to one inch in diameter. In addition to the wind and hail, several rounds of heavy rain could lead to localized flooding, particularly in urban areas, with the highest risk occurring overnight and into early Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, moderate waves of 2 to 4 feet are also anticipated along the lakeshore this afternoon, increasing the danger for those near the water. Looking ahead, the risk for high waves of 4 to 8 feet is predicted for Sunday, prompting concerns for swimmers and boaters.
