Grand Rapids, MI – A new round of lake-effect snow could create slick and hazardous conditions along the Lake Michigan shoreline beginning Monday afternoon through early Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids.

Forecasters say a narrow snow band may set up over portions of Ottawa, Muskegon, and Oceana Counties, where 4 inches or more of accumulation is possible if the band remains stationary for several hours. The greatest snowfall potential exists late Monday night into early Tuesday, with locally higher totals possible in inland lake-effect corridors.

The NWS notes that snow rates could briefly exceed an inch per hour in the heaviest bands, leading to sudden drops in visibility and rapidly snow-covered roads. Commuters traveling along US-31 and I-96 should be prepared for quickly changing road conditions and allow extra time for travel.

Areas outside the lakeshore zone—including Grand Rapids and Holland—may still see light snow showers with minimal accumulation. Temperatures will remain below freezing, ensuring that snow sticks easily to cold pavement.

Motorists are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts and road conditions Monday evening as this event develops.
