Grand Junction, Colo. – Thunderstorms with gusty outflow winds and small hail will continue across western Colorado today and into Thursday, raising short-term concerns for travel and outdoor safety.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, scattered showers and storms today will give way to more isolated activity on Thursday, primarily over mountainous regions. Storms may bring brief downpours, lightning, and wind gusts over 40 mph, especially across Mesa, Delta, and Montrose counties.

Starting Friday, conditions shift dramatically as a hot and dry weather pattern takes hold across the Western Slope and much of the Four Corners region. Fire weather risks are expected to increase significantly by the weekend, with critical conditions possible Saturday through Monday.

Outdoor burn bans may be issued, and residents are urged to avoid any open flames, secure loose debris, and prepare for poor air quality. Hydration and limited exposure to afternoon heat are also advised, particularly in lower-elevation cities like Grand Junction and Fruita where highs may climb above 95°F.

The NWS will monitor conditions closely; updated advisories are possible as the weekend approaches.
