Grand Forks, N.D. – Residents across eastern North Dakota are waking up to frosty conditions this Sunday morning, with temperatures dropping into the mid-30s under a Frost Advisory. Sensitive plants and crops may have been damaged if left uncovered overnight.

According to the National Weather Service, the Frost Advisory remains in effect until 8 a.m. Sunday. Areas north and west of Grand Forks, including Devils Lake and the Red River Valley, also faced near-freezing lows. This marks one of the earliest frost events of the season, coming just a week into September.

The good news: warmer days are ahead. Sunshine will push highs into the upper 60s Sunday, reaching the upper 70s by Monday and Tuesday. Winds stay light, shifting from the south and southeast through midweek. The NOAA outlook suggests low risk for widespread hazardous weather, meaning the main story this week will be cold nights followed by comfortable afternoons.

Gardeners and farmers should continue protecting sensitive vegetation during the next few nights, as patchy frost remains possible in rural low spots. Morning commutes along I-29 and Highway 2 may begin chilly, but no precipitation or travel hazards are expected.

By midweek, highs climb near 80°F under mostly sunny skies, offering a stretch of classic early fall weather.
