Grand Forks, ND – Light to moderate snow moving quickly through the area this morning is expected to create hazardous travel conditions across Grand Forks and the Red River Valley.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, snow is impacting the morning commute, with light to moderate accumulations leading to slick road surfaces. While snowfall amounts are not expected to be heavy, conditions may change rapidly as a cold front follows the snow.
Behind the front, gusty winds are expected to develop, leading to blowing snow and reduced visibility late this morning and into the afternoon. Additional snow showers are possible, especially across eastern North Dakota and the Red River Valley, further complicating travel.
Drivers should expect periods of difficult travel, particularly on open stretches of road where blowing snow can quickly obscure visibility. Road conditions may deteriorate again after brief improvements as winds increase.
Travel on Interstate 29, U.S. Highway 2, and local county roads may be impacted, especially during peak travel hours. Bridges, overpasses, and rural roads are most vulnerable to drifting snow.
The National Weather Service urged motorists to slow down, allow extra travel time, and check current road conditions before heading out. Commuters, school transportation, and delivery drivers should be prepared for changing conditions throughout the day.
