Grand Forks, ND – A winter weather system moving into eastern North Dakota could bring more than four inches of snow to areas including Grand Forks and Fargo by early Wednesday morning, with impacts extending into west central Minnesota.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, a low-pressure system tracking from the northern Plains into the Great Lakes is expected to intensify from Tuesday through Wednesday. Forecasters noted a 70% or greater chance of at least four inches of snow across southeastern North Dakota, including Grand Forks County, and extending into Clay and Becker counties in Minnesota.
Travel conditions could deteriorate quickly Tuesday evening due to blowing snow and low visibility, particularly along Interstate 29 and U.S. Highway 2 corridors. While snowfall totals remain uncertain due to fluctuations in storm track, confidence is increasing in widespread impacts.
Residents should prepare for hazardous travel, especially during Tuesday’s evening commute and into Wednesday morning. Officials advise keeping emergency kits in vehicles and monitoring local weather alerts. Winds could exacerbate drifting and visibility issues across rural roadways.
This system follows light snow and cloudy conditions reported Sunday across southeastern North Dakota, where temperatures ranged from the low 30s to mid-40s. More updates are expected as the storm system develops.
