Glasgow, Montana – Thunderstorms are expected to develop across northeast Montana late this afternoon, bringing the potential for damaging wind gusts and large hail through about midnight. Another round of thunderstorms is expected to return Sunday afternoon, continuing an active weather pattern across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Glasgow, showers and thunderstorms will first develop across northwestern portions of the forecast area late this afternoon before expanding eastward through the evening. The strongest storms may produce damaging winds and large hail, with activity expected to gradually diminish around midnight.
Communities including Glasgow, Wolf Point, Sidney, Glendive, Malta, Jordan, Circle, Plentywood and Scobey should monitor conditions closely as storms approach. Gusty winds may bring down small tree limbs, while large hail could damage vehicles, crops and outdoor property. Frequent lightning and brief heavy rainfall will also accompany stronger thunderstorms.
Forecasters are also watching Sunday afternoon, when another wave of scattered thunderstorms is expected to develop across far eastern Montana. The highest storm risk is expected across eastern counties, where another round of damaging wind gusts and hail will be possible.
Residents should secure loose outdoor items, move vehicles into covered parking if available and have multiple ways to receive weather warnings. If thunder roars, head indoors immediately and avoid open fields or isolated trees until storms have passed.
The threat for strong thunderstorms will decrease after midnight tonight before increasing again Sunday afternoon. Additional severe weather statements or warnings may be issued if storms strengthen across northeast Montana.
