Pulaski, TN – The Giles County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents—especially seniors—about a new scam involving fake home security company calls and visits. Deputies say the scheme has already targeted multiple local residents in recent weeks.

According to the sheriff’s office, scammers are contacting existing home security customers and claiming that their equipment needs an “upgrade.” The scammers then request bank account information and tell victims they cannot accept credit cards.

Authorities say the callers often have detailed knowledge of the customer’s current security setup, making the scam appear legitimate. In at least one case, a company allegedly sent installers to set up new equipment that appeared to work—only for the customer to later learn they had been misled into switching service providers under false pretenses.

The sheriff’s office is urging residents to avoid high-pressure sales calls and to contact their existing security company directly before agreeing to any upgrades or payments.

“Consumers should always research a company and verify its legitimacy before providing personal or financial information,” the office said in its advisory.

Anyone who suspects fraudulent activity is encouraged to report it to local law enforcement.
