Atlanta, GA – North and central Georgia will enjoy a mostly dry start to the weekend before scattered storms move in Sunday, according to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City.
Forecasters say Friday and Saturday will bring mild, dry conditions with highs ranging from 77 to 84 degrees and overnight lows dipping into the 50s and 60s. Increasing clouds are expected Saturday but no significant rain is forecast.
According to the NWS, isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely south of I-20 on Sunday afternoon and evening, as moisture builds across the region. Areas north of I-20, including much of metro Atlanta, are expected to remain mostly dry.
The weather agency notes that temperatures will stay seasonable through the weekend, with highs peaking in the lower 80s by Sunday and lows ranging from 58 to 69 degrees.
Drivers heading south of Atlanta should prepare for possible brief downpours, lightning, and wet travel conditions late Sunday, while much of north Georgia will likely avoid storm activity.
The NWS says the pattern shift marks the beginning of increased rain chances heading into next week.
