Georgia – A biting northwest wind cuts between downtown buildings this morning, rattling signs and stinging exposed skin. Thermometers read 33 degrees in Atlanta, but wind chills hover near 21. It feels much colder than it looks under partly cloudy skies.
The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a Cold Weather Advisory until 10 a.m. for much of north and central Georgia, including metro Atlanta. Wind chills are ranging from around 10 degrees above zero to a few degrees below zero in colder spots. Prolonged exposure could lead to hypothermia without proper layers.
Commuters along I-75, I-85, and I-285 won’t deal with snow, but the cold will be sharp and persistent through mid-morning. Dress in layers, wear gloves, and limit time outdoors. Pets and vulnerable neighbors need extra attention during this February cold snap.
Sunshine strengthens this afternoon with highs near 41 degrees. Clear skies tonight allow temperatures to drop back to around 25, keeping the chill in place into early Tuesday. By Tuesday afternoon, highs rebound to the lower 50s with full sunshine.
Midweek brings a noticeable shift. Wednesday climbs to near 61 degrees under mostly cloudy skies. Showers arrive late Wednesday night into Thursday, when highs reach the mid-60s. No winter precipitation is expected, but breezy conditions may return with the rain.
By Saturday, sunshine and highs near 67 degrees deliver early spring vibes. Longer-range outlooks favor above-normal temperatures into early March, with readings pushing toward 70 by next Sunday.
