Atlanta, Georgia – Residents across northern Georgia can expect a rare break from storms on Wednesday as drier air moves in north of I-20, bringing sunshine and warmer temperatures to areas like Rome, Dalton, and Atlanta.

According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, scattered showers and thunderstorms will remain concentrated south of the I-20 corridor, particularly affecting cities like Macon, Dublin, and Columbus. Rain chances in those southern areas could reach up to 60%, while regions farther north stay mostly dry with highs in the upper 80s.

In Atlanta, dry skies and a high near 88°F will provide a brief window for outdoor plans before rain chances ramp back up late Wednesday night. Cities like LaGrange, Griffin, and Thomaston may see spotty afternoon storms, with localized flooding possible on already saturated roads.

Travelers along I-75 and I-16 should use caution, especially during afternoon hours when pop-up storms could reduce visibility and cause slick conditions. Residents in south Georgia are urged to monitor local alerts and avoid low-lying areas prone to flash flooding.

The reprieve will be short-lived: widespread showers and storms are forecast to return Thursday and persist through the weekend.
