Atlanta, Georgia – Scattered thunderstorms moving across Georgia Monday could turn severe, bringing damaging wind gusts and a chance of hail or a brief tornado before 10 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, most of the state faces a Level 1 (marginal) risk for severe weather through tonight. While widespread impacts are not expected, isolated storms may quickly intensify—especially across central and northern Georgia—producing gusts over 60 mph, pea to quarter-sized hail, or a short-lived tornado.

Metro Atlanta, Macon, Columbus, and Athens are all within the affected zone, with storms likely to track northeastward. Strong wind gusts may bring down tree limbs and cause isolated power outages. Motorists on I-75, I-20, and I-85 should watch for sudden downpours and reduced visibility during evening travel.

Residents are urged to monitor weather alerts, secure outdoor items, and avoid unnecessary driving during storms. If a warning is issued, move indoors and stay away from windows.

This system is expected to exit the area later tonight, but lingering showers may persist. Additional updates will be issued if stronger storms develop.
