Atlanta, GA – Skies across Georgia will appear hazy and milky again Sunday as wildfire smoke from Canada continues to drift southward, creating vivid sunrises and sunsets but posing no risk to air quality.
According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, the smoke is suspended high in the atmosphere and will not mix down to the surface, meaning no immediate impact on breathing conditions. The hazy layer was visible in satellite imagery Saturday evening and is expected to persist through sunset Sunday.
The effect will be most noticeable across north and central Georgia, including cities like Atlanta, Macon, and Athens. While most of the region stays dry, isolated showers and storms could develop this afternoon and evening in far north Georgia, particularly near Gainesville and Blairsville.
Drivers may notice reduced clarity on the horizon, but visibility at ground level remains unaffected. Outdoor activity remains safe, though sensitive groups should monitor updates at AirNow.gov if conditions change.
Sunshine filtered through smoke particles may result in deep orange hues during sunrise and sunset. Skies should begin to clear Monday as the upper-level flow shifts.
Further updates will be issued if smoke concentrations or storm activity increase later today.
