Wilmington, North Carolina – Mostly sunny skies will give way to scattered thunderstorms Sunday afternoon across southeastern North Carolina as a cold front pushes in from the north.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, isolated storms are expected to begin after 2 p.m. across counties including Bladen, Pender, and inland Brunswick. Rain chances peak near 60% west of Interstate 95, particularly around Elizabethtown and Whiteville, before tapering off overnight.

Localized downpours and brief gusty winds could accompany the storms, especially near Fayetteville and Burgaw. Daytime highs will reach 80 to 84°F across much of the region, with overnight lows dipping into the lower 60s after some clearing late tonight.

Travelers and beachgoers should monitor radar updates and stay alert for rapidly changing conditions. Outdoor plans may be interrupted by pop-up storms, so consider having a backup location indoors. Use caution on wet roads during the evening commute.

This system marks the start of a cooler pattern heading into the workweek. Another update will be issued if stronger storms develop later Sunday afternoon.
