Atlanta, Georgia – Damaging winds and scattered severe storms are expected across central and southern Georgia Thursday afternoon, with the greatest threat focused south of I-20 between noon and 8 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, storms will increase in coverage and intensity through the day, bringing wind gusts up to 60 mph, isolated hail up to a quarter inch, and the possibility of brief tornadoes. The severe threat peaks in central Georgia, including areas near Macon, LaGrange, and Dublin.
Residents in counties such as Muscogee, Bibb, and Houston should remain alert for rapidly changing conditions and be prepared for potential power outages, fallen trees, and hazardous travel. Winds strong enough to down limbs and unsecured outdoor items could make for dangerous conditions during the evening commute.
Drivers are urged to avoid non-essential travel during the strongest storm period, especially along I-75, I-85, and U.S. 441. Secure loose outdoor furniture and keep mobile devices charged in case of outages.
The NWS emphasizes that more rounds of storms could follow into the evening, with additional updates expected as new data comes in. Weather warnings remain possible throughout Thursday night.
