Atlanta, Georgia – Drivers across metro Atlanta could feel sudden 40 mph wind gusts by 8 a.m. Sunday, creating hazardous crosswinds on major highways through early evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. EST Sunday for much of north, central and west-central Georgia. Northwest winds will increase to 15 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph statewide.
In metro Atlanta, including Fulton, DeKalb, Cobb and Gwinnett counties, unsecured outdoor objects may be blown into streets. Elevated stretches of Interstate 75, Interstate 85 and Georgia 400 could see strong crosswinds, especially impacting trucks and SUVs. In North Georgia communities such as Dalton, Blue Ridge and Gainesville, gusty conditions may snap weakened tree limbs and lead to isolated power outages.
Farther south, cities including Macon, Columbus, Warner Robins and Dublin will also see peak afternoon gusts as daytime heating strengthens winds.
Residents should secure trash bins, patio furniture and temporary structures before midmorning. Avoid parking under large trees and charge devices in case of scattered outages.
Winds are expected to ease after sunset Sunday, though breezy conditions may linger overnight. Additional advisories could be issued if gusts exceed projections during peak afternoon hours.
