Seattle, Washington – Wind gusts up to 50 mph are slamming the Washington coast and pushing into the foothills east of Seattle overnight, creating hazardous travel and a growing risk of power outages through Sunday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Seattle, a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. PST Sunday for the foothills and valleys of King, Pierce and Snohomish counties, as well as the Northern Washington Coast and Grays Harbor County Coast. Coastal communities including Ocean Shores, Westport, La Push and Neah Bay could see southeast winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. Inland areas such as North Bend, Enumclaw, Maple Valley and Monroe may experience gusts reaching 45 mph.

Drivers along U.S. 101 and Interstate 5 should prepare for sudden crosswinds, especially in exposed stretches and near the water. In the Seattle metro’s eastern foothills, falling tree limbs may block secondary roads and cause isolated outages.

A separate advisory begins at 7 a.m. Sunday for San Juan County, including Friday Harbor, where gusts could reach 45 mph through 3 p.m. Ferry service disruptions are possible if winds intensify.

Winds are expected to gradually ease late Sunday morning inland and by midafternoon in the San Juans. Additional updates may follow if gusts trend higher along the coast.
