Atlanta, GA – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Peachtree City has issued a tornado watch for multiple counties in North Georgia, remaining in effect until 1 a.m. EDT Sunday. Residents are urged to stay alert as severe storms capable of producing tornadoes, damaging winds, and heavy rainfall move through the region.
According to the NWS, the tornado watch includes 14 counties across North Central and Northwest Georgia. Affected areas include Fannin, Gilmer, Pickens, Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, Gordon, Murray, Walker, Whitfield, Lumpkin, Union, Towns, and White counties. Cities such as Blue Ridge, Calhoun, Dalton, Dahlonega, Blairsville, and Cleveland are also under the watch.
Severe thunderstorms associated with this system may produce wind gusts exceeding 60 mph, frequent lightning, and localized flash flooding. The NWS advises residents to have multiple ways to receive warnings and take shelter immediately if a tornado warning is issued.
Authorities recommend securing outdoor objects, avoiding unnecessary travel, and staying informed through weather alerts. If sheltering during a tornado, residents should seek interior rooms on the lowest floor, away from windows.
