Missoula, MT – A winter weather advisory remains in effect across several regions of western Montana and northern Idaho, with snowfall and gusty winds expected to impact travel through Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in Missoula, snow will begin late Saturday night and continue through Sunday, with accumulations ranging from 1 to 8 inches depending on elevation. Areas including the Kootenai/Cabinet Region, Potomac/Seeley Lake, Lower Clark Fork, Bitterroot/Sapphire Mountains, and the West Glacier Region will see between 1 to 5 inches of snow. Higher elevations, such as Marias Pass and the Northern and Southern Clearwater Mountains, could see up to 8 inches of accumulation.

Strong winds will accompany the snowfall in some areas, particularly in the Bitterroot/Sapphire Mountains and East Glacier Park Region, where gusts may reach 40 mph, creating reduced visibility and hazardous road conditions.

Major highways affected include Highway 2 from Kalispell to Libby, Highway 93 near Whitefish, I-90 from Missoula to Lookout Pass, and Highway 200 from Trout Creek to Plains. Motorists should prepare for slippery roads and changing conditions, especially in mountain passes.

Travelers are advised to slow down, use caution, and check the latest road conditions by calling 511 or visiting the Montana Department of Transportation website.
