Atlanta, Georgia – Damaging winds, hail, and the chance of a brief tornado could impact Georgia residents through 8 p.m. Monday, as a round of severe thunderstorms sweeps through the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, scattered storms will persist across northern and central Georgia this afternoon and evening. The highest threat window is between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., with wind gusts up to 60 mph posing the most significant danger. The agency rates today’s risk at Level 1, its highest localized threat level, meaning isolated severe storms are possible.

Metro Atlanta, Athens, Macon, and surrounding areas could see quick-moving storms capable of downing trees and power lines. Some storms may also produce quarter-sized hail. Drivers on I-75, I-85, and I-20 should expect sudden downpours and reduced visibility.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, charge phones, and avoid unnecessary travel during the peak threat hours. Those in mobile homes or vulnerable structures should have a safe place to shelter quickly if warnings are issued.

Severe thunderstorm warnings may continue into the evening, and additional alerts could be issued as conditions evolve. Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio or trusted local outlets for updates.
