
Joliet Township, IL – Authorities arrested a suspect in connection to the July 24 homicide in Joliet Township. The arrest of Landen Brown, 19, took place in Gary, Indiana, following a collaborative effort between the Will County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Service. Brown is charged with first-degree murder, armed robbery, and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
According to the Will County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting occurred near Luana Road and Girard Boulevard. The victim, Jayden Velazquez-Garcia, 19, of Plainfield, was shot while sitting in his vehicle. He attempted to flee but later succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.
Authorities swiftly identified Brown as a suspect, alleging the shooting was part of a targeted armed robbery. After fleeing Will County, Brown was tracked to a residence in Gary, where he was apprehended without incident.
Local residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement. Brown remains in custody in Indiana and is awaiting extradition to Illinois.
