Blacksburg, VA – A wind advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. today for parts of southwest Virginia and northwest North Carolina. Areas impacted include Smyth and Grayson counties in Virginia, as well as Ashe and Alleghany counties in North Carolina. Wind gusts could reach up to 45 mph.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), colder air will move into the region, bringing frost and near-freezing temperatures by Tuesday night. Frost is expected to persist through Thursday, especially in mountain valleys. Residents should take precautions to protect plants and outdoor pets.

The advisory warns that winds could damage trees and power lines, leading to possible outages. The strongest winds are expected in higher elevations, particularly in the mountain ranges of the region.
