Albany, NY – A bitter cold snap will settle over the Capital Region this week, bringing single-digit temperatures and biting wind chills. Sunday begins with a high near 26°F, but gusty winds up to 26 mph will make it feel significantly colder.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will plunge to the teens by Monday night, with lows dipping below 15°F by Tuesday night. Wind chills will likely make conditions feel even more frigid, creating a heightened risk for frostbite and hypothermia with prolonged outdoor exposure.
Albany residents should prepare for icy conditions on sidewalks and roads as scattered snow showers are expected to linger through Monday. Commuters are advised to allow extra time and use caution, especially on bridges and overpasses that may freeze quickly.
By midweek, high temperatures will struggle to surpass the low 20s, with nighttime lows hovering in the single digits. While slightly milder weather is forecast later in the week, another cold front could bring additional challenges heading into next weekend.
Residents are urged to check on elderly neighbors, dress in layers, and take precautions to protect pets and pipes from freezing temperatures.
