Raleigh, NC – Residents in central North Carolina are urged to take precautions as a freeze warning is set to take effect early Friday morning. Temperatures are expected to drop to as low as 28°F, posing a threat to plants, crops, and outdoor plumbing.
According to the National Weather Service, the warning will be in place from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. Friday across much of the region, including Raleigh, Durham, and surrounding areas. Sub-freezing temperatures are likely, with frost and freeze conditions that could damage tender vegetation and unprotected pipes.
Tonight’s low will hover around 33°F, and skies will remain partly cloudy with light winds up to 10 mph. Friday’s weather will improve as temperatures rise to a sunny high of 52°F, but the early morning freeze could still cause significant impacts. Homeowners are advised to cover sensitive plants, bring potted plants indoors, and drip faucets overnight to prevent freezing pipes.
Looking ahead, a gradual warm-up is forecast for the weekend. Saturday will see sunny skies with a high near 60°F, followed by a warmer Sunday, with highs reaching 64°F. By Monday, temperatures could climb to nearly 69°F, offering some relief from the cold snap.
