Fresno County, California – A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect for much of the San Joaquin Valley, creating dangerous driving conditions along Interstate 5 from midnight tonight through Tuesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Hanford, dense fog is expected to reduce visibility to 800 feet or less, resulting in a high transportation risk, especially during overnight and early-morning travel hours.

The advisory impacts Interstate 5 from Los Banos southward, along with several major highways, including Highway 99, Highway 198, Highway 41, Highway 43, and Highway 180. Officials say fog conditions may vary rapidly, with some locations experiencing near-zero visibility.

The NWS Experimental Fog Severity Index indicates a high likelihood of severe fog impacts, warning drivers of very slow or stopped traffic ahead. Motorists are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and maintain extra distance between vehicles.

The advisory remains in effect until 11 a.m. Tuesday, when fog is expected to gradually lift as conditions improve. However, lingering low visibility may persist longer in low-lying and rural areas.

These conditions are especially concerning for early-morning commuters, long-haul truck drivers, and overnight travelers using the I-5 corridor, one of California’s busiest freight and travel routes.

Drivers are encouraged to check real-time road conditions before traveling and delay trips if possible until visibility improves.
