Peoria, IL – A winter weather advisory is in effect for central Illinois from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday as freezing rain is expected to create hazardous road conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, IL, ice accumulations of up to one-tenth of an inch are possible across Peoria, Bloomington, Normal, and surrounding areas. The advisory covers Marshall, Mason, McLean, Peoria, Stark, Tazewell, Woodford, Fulton, Knox, and Schuyler counties.
Bridges, overpasses, and untreated roadways will likely become slick, making travel hazardous. Motorists are advised to drive cautiously, reduce speeds, and allow extra time for commutes. Pedestrians should also be cautious on sidewalks, stairs, and driveways, as icy surfaces increase the risk of falls and injuries.
Residents are encouraged to stay updated on weather conditions and prepare for potential delays. If travel is necessary, carrying an emergency kit with blankets, food, and a flashlight is recommended.
Stay tuned for updates from local officials and the National Weather Service as conditions develop.
