New York, NY – A wintry mix of freezing rain and ice threatens interior parts of New York and Connecticut Friday night into Saturday morning, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). A glaze of ice could make travel hazardous, especially on untreated roads.

The NWS forecasts ice accumulation of up to a few hundredths of an inch in northern areas, including I-80 and I-684 corridors. Freezing rain is expected overnight as temperatures hover near 32°F before transitioning to plain rain by midday Saturday. Subfreezing ground temperatures could exacerbate road icing.

Hazardous conditions are most likely after midnight Friday through early Saturday morning, with temperatures rising above freezing later in the day. Major cities like Poughkeepsie and Hartford are in the advisory zone.

Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel during icy periods and monitor updates. Winter Weather Advisories may follow if ice accumulation increases.

Stay informed about road conditions and keep emergency supplies on hand. Follow local updates and heed travel warnings to stay safe during this storm.
