Martinsburg, WV – Freezing rain is expected to make travel hazardous across the West Virginia Panhandle on Christmas Eve morning.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory until 1 p.m. Tuesday. Light ice accumulations will affect bridges, overpasses, and untreated roads in Berkeley, Jefferson, and Morgan counties.
Motorists should prepare for delays and reduce speeds while traveling. By early afternoon, temperatures are expected to rise above freezing, allowing precipitation to shift to rain and reducing ice risks. However, wet patches on roads may refreeze overnight as temperatures dip into the 20s.
The outlook improves for the holiday, with a sunny Christmas Day forecast and highs reaching the 40s. Residents can check 511 for road condition updates before traveling.
