Oakland, MD – Snow and freezing rain are expected to create slick and dangerous conditions across Garrett County on Christmas Eve.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory in effect until 7 p.m. Tuesday. Snow accumulations of up to an inch and light ice are forecast, especially along I-68 and US-219. Early morning precipitation began as snow and is transitioning to freezing rain by late morning.
Drivers should avoid unnecessary travel as roads, bridges, and overpasses are likely to become slippery. Icy conditions may also cause disruptions to power lines, increasing the potential for localized outages.
The weather is expected to improve by Christmas Day, with highs near 45 degrees and mostly sunny skies through the end of the week. Residents can monitor road conditions through Maryland’s 511 system.
