Eagle River, WI – A wintry mix of freezing rain and snow is set to create hazardous conditions across Vilas County through Sunday evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 a.m. Saturday. A more severe Winter Storm Warning will follow, beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday and continuing until 7 p.m. Sunday. Residents in Eagle River, Lac Du Flambeau, and surrounding areas should expect a dangerous combination of ice and heavy snow.
Forecasters warn of snow and sleet accumulation between 2 to 5 inches, alongside ice buildup ranging from a quarter to four-tenths of an inch. This level of icing could lead to widespread power outages and tree damage. Travel conditions are expected to worsen significantly Saturday night into Sunday, with some roads becoming nearly impassable.
Residents are advised to stay off the roads during the warning period. Those who must travel should carry emergency supplies, including food, water, and a flashlight. Sidewalks, driveways, and steps may become slick, increasing the risk of injury.
