Midland, TX – The National Weather Service in Midland/Odessa has issued a Freeze Watch for portions of West Texas, including Andrews, Borden, Scurry, Martin, Howard, Mitchell, and Glasscock counties, in effect from late tonight through Thursday morning (Oct. 30, 2025).
Forecasters expect overnight lows to dip between 28 and 30°F, bringing the potential for the first hard freeze of the season in several areas. The cold temperatures may damage crops, kill sensitive vegetation, and freeze unprotected outdoor plumbing.
Residents should cover or bring in plants, drain irrigation systems and hoses, and shelter pets or livestock. Those without adequate heating are encouraged to seek warm, safe shelter overnight.
Winds will ease after sunset, allowing the cold air to settle across the Permian Basin and low rolling plains. Temperatures are expected to rebound modestly on Thursday afternoon under sunny skies.
