Baltimore, MD – A freeze warning is in effect this morning for parts of Virginia and West Virginia, covering areas including the Central and Northern Virginia Blue Ridge, Shenandoah Valley, and counties in the West Virginia Highlands. The National Weather Service forecasts temperatures as low as 30 degrees, which could harm crops, sensitive vegetation, and outdoor plumbing.

Residents in affected areas—such as Luray, Woodstock, and New Market in Virginia, and Romney and Paw Paw in West Virginia—should take steps to protect plants by covering them or moving them indoors. Unprotected pipes should also be wrapped or allowed to drip slowly to prevent freezing.

This freeze warning is expected to remain in effect until 9 a.m. today. As temperatures continue to drop with the change in season, residents in these mountainous regions should stay informed about local conditions and be prepared for ongoing cold snaps throughout the fall.
