Grand Junction, CO – A hard freeze settling across western Colorado and eastern Utah is putting crops and outdoor plumbing at immediate risk through mid-morning Saturday, with temperatures dropping well below freezing overnight.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, a Freeze Warning remains in effect until 10 a.m. MDT Saturday for a wide region including Grand Junction, Glenwood Springs, Montrose, Durango, and Moab. Temperatures have fallen as low as 19 degrees in some valleys, with many areas ranging through the 20s—cold enough to kill sensitive vegetation during an active early growing season.
The cold stretches across key river basins including the Colorado, Gunnison, and San Juan, as well as the Four Corners region and eastern Utah’s Uinta Basin. Agricultural areas near Palisade, Delta, and Cortez face heightened risk due to early spring growth already underway.
A second round of freezing temperatures is expected late Saturday night into Sunday morning, with lows potentially dipping into the lower 20s again.
Residents should cover plants, protect irrigation systems, and insulate exposed pipes immediately. While temperatures will recover later Saturday, additional alerts are likely as another freeze develops overnight into Sunday.
